Skin Deep
The beauty of being broken,
being covered in colours of despair,
unable to catch your breath
before the next fad washes over you.
Pummeled relentlessly,
as words whispered,
shouted,
unsaid,
strip away everything
until you’re skin is cracked,
exposed…..
…………..
so your soul,
your sage,
your source of inner strength,
staying silent until its time,
starts stripping away false
foundations,
never a fit for your natural state.
Bruised blushes reveal
your hidden embarrassment.
Look,
as clean brushes sweep away your self,
the one unrespected for so long,
stripping off contour lines
that categorised you,
but never defined your features,
only violated your value,
your worth,
as you wilted in this world,
and it screaming out for your natural look.
Not the “rolled out of bed” look,
the “I have arrived” glare,
your everyday “go to” vibe.
You know,
when I look closer,
you really suit you .

Such a beautiful piece
Beautifully written. “You really suit you” is such a wonderful ending, simple and deeply affirming. <3
